Estimator / Senior Estimator

Sentri Group are currently working alongside a regional contractor based in London who are looking to appoint an Estimator / Senior Estimator to their pre-construction team.

They are a medium sized Main Contractor, specialising in quality new build and refurbishment contracts in and around London and the South East.

A position has arisen for an experienced Estimator to work closely with the Management Team to provide an excellent service, secure work and develop their client base.

Job specification and requirements

Project types and values range from traditional to D&B up to £6M+  

They are seeking an Estimator to join the team to carry out all estimating duties including:

  • Taking tenders from initial enquiry to submission.
  • Provision of timely and accurate estimates
  • Analysis of contract documentation and preparation of accurate subcontractor packages for pricing.
  • Maintaining an updated cost data base
  • Liaising with and negotiate with sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Active participation in adjudication meetings
  • Carry out some surveying duties when necessary.
  • Maintaining good relationships with prospective clients and professionals to promote further tender invitations.

Skills required:

  • Previous estimating experience of at least 5 years with a contractor in a similar role
  • Knowledge of building material components, building regulations, estimating (including taking off) and H&S.
  • Computer skills, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of contractual procedures and responsibilities
  • Good negotiation, influencing and communication skills.

  • Analyse Tender Documents
  • Prepare Supply Chain Package Enquiries
  • Identify suitable suppliers and sub-contractors for the project i.e., location / value / experience / ability

As a privately-owned developer of high specification new build one-off houses am looking to recruit an experienced project-based Quantity Surveyor on a 20,000 sq. ft. new build house in Surrey.

Currently, with ‘live’ sites in areas such as St Georges Hill, Wentworth Estate and with developments in excess of 15,000 sq. ft. you will be working closely with the Construction Manager and Commercial Director and assume responsibility for all surveying duties and implementing company procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a privately funded and cash-rich organisation with a real focus on only developing luxury houses primarily on a design & build basis rather than on a speculative basis.

You will be expected to:

  • Maintain all cost control procedures working within the guidelines set out within the Group policies and procedures
  • Be responsible for the compilation of all weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as required
  • Be aware of new materials and methods of construction that the company may employ, as well as a sound knowledge of the latest regulations, codes of practice and NHBC requirements
  • Ensure that subordinates receive the required training and mentorship for them to learn and thrive in their responsibilities
  • Be responsible for all cost control procedures, including managing and controlling the budget and valuations by always updating the estimated final costs, and having the ability to show absolute cost and value reconciliation

  • Maintain budget control throughout development; and manage cost overruns within contingency levels
  • Complete accurate costing for each aspect of site development
  • Analyse and report on costs and cash flow using the support systems available
  • Prepare tenders and procure sub-contractors, goods, and materials, using Group Procedures
  • Compile subcontractor recommendations for approval
  • Process Subcontract orders, payments, and variations using Excel and Group payment system (COINS) in line with Group policy and procedures
  • Attend all project and team meetings as required, and present the Commercial position to the meeting
  • Compile and Present valuations at Divisional valuation meetings
  • Be responsible for accurately controlling all commercial aspects and responsibilities with regard to the RSL
  • Be aware of all codes of practice that impact estimating e.g. Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, HSE, Code for Sustainable Homes
